Does Abstinence Sex Ed Increase Risky Sex?
SexHealthGuru.com has posted an interesting video on some research published in an ’06 issue of the Journal of Adolescent Health, suggesting that teaching about abstinence increases rates of risky adolescence sex. The original article makes some excellent points about the difference between the choice to abstain from sex and abstinence-only sexuality education, including the lack of a solid definition for the latter. The video reviews the research, drawing attention to rates for teen sex and advocating for comprehensive sex education, which is generally defined as promoting delaying or abstaining from sex while also providing knowledge and resources for those who do, or will, engage in intercourse or other forms of sexual activity.
