The Religious Institute on Sexual Morality, Justice and Healing ( here ) has issued three ground breaking statements to the public, with an invitation to religious leaders to review and consider endorsing them.  Three hundred new signatures are sought by July 4, 2008; they already have over 2500.

These three statements are:

An Open Letter To Religious Leaders on Marital Equality – here

An Open Letter To Religious Leaders on Abortion As A Moral Decision – here

Religious Declaration on Sexual Morality, Justice and Healing – here

more after the jump

The Religious Institute has previously released statements on gender diversity, adolescent sexuality and sexual abuse, among other topics.  They can be found here.  I’m a big fan of theirs, as they represent a solid organization that recognizes and values all three areas of pleasure (emotional, relational, and physical) in a sex-positive, yet morally based manner.  Those who do not believe that religious organizations can be allies in the effort for a diverse and progressive positive sexuality movement will be pleasant surprised by The Religious Institute.  For others, they will find a comforting and well thought-out moral framework for sexual inclusivity and positivity within a religiously moral and value driven organization.

Take a look at their statements, consider them, and pass them along to your friends and religious leaders to consider.  If you’re not a religious leader but want to keep up with The Religious Institute you can sign up for their monthly-or-so emailed newsletter, like I have.  It’s written by the engaging and inspiring Rev. Debra W. Haffner, whom I have had the honor of listening to at the Annual Guelph Sexual Conference. Keep up the great work and inspirational spiritual statements, education and outreach.  It’s wonderful to sex responsible, well structured religious organizations taking a positive, caring and ethical approach to sexuality, intimacy and gender & sexual diversity.
